Champion Spark Plug Co.’s directors met to consider an $800-million cash takeover offer from Cooper Industries Inc., and there were indications that a deal could be worked out. A Cooper takeover would derail a previously announced $590-million deal for Toledo-based Dana Corp. to acquire the spark plug maker. A Dana spokesman declined comment on Cooper’s offer and would not say whether the automotive parts maker would increase its bid.
