KCBS-TV Channel 2 will launch a half-hour, 6 a.m. weekday newscast, beginning Feb. 27, General Manager Robert Hyland announced Tuesday. “Action News Early Report” will be anchored by Jim Moret (who handles the local news cut-ins to “CBS This Morning”), with veteran broadcaster Bill Keene providing traffic and weather updates. Also featured will be a daily wrap-up from Sports Director Keith Olbermann and other news segments. The announcement comes two weeks after rival KABC-TV Channel 7 announced plans to launch a half-hour early morning newscast (to be aired at either 6 or 6:30 a.m.) in coming months. KNBC-TV Channel 4 has a locally-produced newscast that airs at 6:30 a.m.
