Two passengers riding in a panel truck were killed in San Ysidro on Saturday when they struck a vehicle leaving a highway off-ramp and then crashed into a parked semitrailer, authorities said.
The two victims, who died at the scene, were identified as Marcos Antonio Garcia, 25, and Jose Louis Gonzales, 23, both of San Ysidro, said Deputy Coroner Robert Engel.
According to authorities, the panel truck was southbound at a high rate of speed on Smythe Avenue about 1:30 a.m. when it struck the vehicle coming off an Interstate 905 ramp.
The panel-truck driver apparently lost control and crashed into the trailer parked in the 2100 block of Smythe Avenue.
