Women’s basketball teams from Valley and Moorpark will meet at 7 tonight at Valley College in a second-round game of the Southern California regional junior college basketball playoffs.
Valley (28-3), seeded third in the 16-team tournament, defeated 14th-seeded Grossmont, 90-70 in the first round Wednesday.
Moorpark (23-7), seeded 11th, defeated sixth-seeded MiraCosta, 64-52.
The state tournament will be held March 2-4 at Valley.
Valley, the Western State Conference champion, is seeded behind Fullerton and Trade Tech. The Lady Monarchs have won 12 consecutive games and 18 of their past 19.
Last season Valley went 28-4 and lost in the state semifinals.
Moorpark has won six consecutive games and has been bolstered by the return of sophomore forward Kerrie Marshall, the team’s leading scorer (17 points a game) who missed the final two regular-season games because of an ankle injury. Marshall scored nine points against MiraCosta.
