Local News in Brief : Burbank Voters Pass Limits on Growth

Voters in Burbank have overwhelmingly approved a ballot measure to slow apartment and residential development.
The planned growth ordinance--approved by 74.2% of the 11,471 voters who cast ballots Tuesday--prohibits property owners from building more units on their land than allowed by city code. The law, effective immediately, also prevents the City Council from making changes in the city’s master plan that would increase the number of residential units.
The ordinance requires anyone who wants to build more than a single-family home to apply for a conditional-use permit. Any proposed project must be scrutinized in a public hearing.
