After more than four hours of bidding at an art auction in Mechlin, Belgium, a small colored drawing by Vincent van Gogh of a woman with a folded umbrella brought $311,284, more than three times the amount paid for it in 1986. “Sien With Umbrella,” a crayon-and-pencil drawing van Gogh made in 1883, went to an unidentified Belgian acting as an intermediary. “Sien With Umbrella” measures only 18 1/2-by-9.2 inches, and is a drawing of a young woman, a folded umbrella under her right arm. The drawing sold for about $93,385 at an auction in 1986.
