Eleven candidates in Redondo Beach’s municipal elections collected a total of $53,080 in campaign contributions, according to the last financial statements filed before Tuesday’s election.
Archie Snow, who hopes to move from his present District 4 City Council seat to the mayor’s post being vacated by Barbara J. Doerr, had the largest individual total, $16,974, according to reports filed Feb. 23. He was followed by W. Brad Parton, another of the five contenders for mayor, who reported $13,281 in contributions.
All but about $2,700 of Parton’s total came from personal loans that the 28-year-old candidate made to his campaign.
Snow’s total includes $500 from Pioneer Theaters of Torrance and $495 each from two refuse collectors and Steve Shoemaker, a King Harbor businessman. Candidates are not required to itemize contributions under $100. Individual totals for the other mayoral contenders were: Frank Bostrom, $3,805 (includes nearly $1,300 lent by the candidate); John Dancy, $3,684 ($2,000 lent by the candidate), and Steve Bopp, $1,030.
In the District 1 council race, incumbent John W. Chapman’s $3,884 total includes $1,100 that he lent his campaign. Outgoing Mayor Doerr, who hopes to win Chapman’s seat, reported raising $3,292.
In District 2, incumbent Kay Horrell collected $1,620, compared to challenger Michael F. Ford’s $1,910.
In the race for the District 4 seat being vacated by Snow, Terry Ward reported $2,756 in contributions and Valerie Dombrowski $844.
