IN BRIEF : Pfister, 7 Under Par, Takes Lead

SINGAPORE — Ed Pfister of the United States fired a record 7-under-par 65 and took the first-day lead in the $220,000 Singapore Open Golf Championship today at Tanah Merah Country Club. Pfister, 22, had a flawless round, with seven birdies and no bogeys. If his record is not broken during this tournament, he will receive $5,000. Kirk Triplett of the United States was in second place with a 67. Two other Americans, Casey Nakama and Scott Taylor, were tied for third with two Taiwanese at 69.
