Ballet Pacifica has received a $10,000 award from the Laguna Beach Festival of the Arts to help support creation of a new work for the company’s 1989-90 season. The money will be used to underwrite the choreographer’s fee, costumes, scenery, lighting, recording of music and dancers’ rehearsal time.
The Festival of the Arts has been awarding Ballet Pacifica grants in increasing amounts since 1964, according to the company’s founding artistic director, Lila Zali.
In other news, these officers have been elected to the Ballet Pacifica board: Scott Carnahan Sr., president; Charles Colgan, first vice president; Norma McCaig, second vice president, and Marilyn Lynch, secretary-treasurer. New board members are David Carmichael, Kelly Monahan, Bill Steel, Pat Nangle, Carol Woodward, Arthur Edgren, Jan Scherer and Kim Luce. Ruth Urban and Gena Mezo were reelected to the board which now includes 21 members.
The Huntington Youth Shelter netted about $2,000 March 17 from a benefit dinner and concert by local rock band 21 Windows, according to shelter president Carol Kanode.
