Lin Resigns His Post

Jack Lin has resigned as chairman of United Education & Software, an Encino chain of trade of schools.
Lin said the resignation is unrelated to recent problems United Education has had servicing government-guaranteed student loans. A U.S. Education Department-led review last year found widespread violations of federal guidelines at a United Education unit in Costa Mesa that serviced student loans. The company has since sold the operation.
Lin said he resigned because serving as chairman made it impossible for National Technical Systems, a small engineering services company he heads, to win government contracts that are set aside for small companies by the Small Business Administration. Lin said that because he served as United Education’s chairman, some officials considered National Technical Systems too large a company for some contracts.
Although Lin was chairman of United Education, he did not run the company’s daily operations, which are handled by Aaron Cohen, its president and chief executive. Lin was replaced as United Education’s chairman by director Stanley R. Schoen, a professor at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
