Freeway Tunnel in S. Pasadena?

Why not go underground in looking for a way to extend the Long Beach Freeway through South Pasadena? Then everyone would be happy!
If the light-rail project can tunnel under Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, why can’t we go ahead with the same idea under South Pasadena?
