Nancy Fortner of San Pedro will return to Cal State Dominguez Hills to take over the school’s women’s volleyball program, Athletic Director Dan Guerrero announced Wednesday.
Fortner, 45, replaces Jennifer Gorecki, who resigned in December.
Fortner guided the Lady Toro volleyball program from 1973 through 1978. In her last season the team was 18-6 and won the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. She moved to Loyola Marymount in 1979 and in seven years mounted a 144-89 record that included one Western Collegiate Athletic Assn. title.
“(Nancy) is one of the most respected volleyball figures in Southern California,” Guerrero said.
Fortner’s husband, Ron, is the women’s basketball coach at Pepperdine.
