French skier Christelle Guignard, bronze medalist in the women’s giant slalom in the World Alpine Ski Championships, subsequently tested positive for a banned substance, according to the U.S. Ski Assn.
USSA secretary general Howard Peterson said a urine test revealed Nikethamide, a central nervous system stimulant on the International Olympic Committee’s banned substance list.
FIS rules call for a three-month suspension for inadvertent use, such as unknowingly taking over-the-counter medication, and a three-year suspension for deliberate use. Team officials and doctors involved could receive a lifetime suspension.
