Memorial Masses for Lucille Ball will be celebrated simultaneously in three cities next Monday night--the night when millions of Americans sat in front of their television sets in the 1950s watching her in “I Love Lucy.”
In Southern California, the Mass will be at St. Monica’s Church, 715 California St., in Santa Monica at 8 p.m. Other services are scheduled at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in New York and Old St. Patrick’s Church in Chicago.
Miss Ball’s husband, Gary Morton, said he and Miss Ball’s two children bade farewell to her over the weekend. “There were just the three of us,” he told United Press International. “That’s what Lucy asked us to do. You couldn’t really call it a service. There was no clergyman present.”
The late comedian had two children by her previous marriage to Desi Arnaz. Morton and Miss Ball were married in 1961.
“It was just the three of us doing our thing, each speaking to her and to each other. It all was kept very confidential,” he said.
The red-haired film and TV star died Wednesday of a ruptured aorta at age 77.
