BATAC, Philippines — Relatives of Ferdinand E. Marcos appealed today to President Corazon Aquino to allow the exiled former ruler to return home to bury his mother on the eve of the first anniversary of her death.
Josefa Marcos died May 4, 1988, at the age of 95, and relatives have vowed not to bury her until Marcos returns from Hawaii, where he has been living in exile since his ouster in 1986.
Relatives said the body of Josefa Marcos was bathed and given a new dress Tuesday. Her body has been embalmed and her makeup redone every two months for an indefinite wake while relatives await the return of Marcos.
