President Daniel Ortega returned to Nicaragua from a 10-nation European tour with a pledge of $50 million in aid. The money, pledged last week at a conference in Stockholm, is far short of the $250 million that Ortega had said is needed to stabilize Nicaragua’s war-battered economy. But Ortega said donors who participated in the two-day conference had not ruled out additional funding. Among those represented at the conference were the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission, the Inter-American Development Bank and the U.N. Development Program.
