Gorbachev, Delors Awarded Spain’s International Prize

OVIEDO, Spain — Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev and Jacques Delors, president of the European Community’s executive commission, were awarded Spain’s Prince of Asturias prize for international cooperation last week.
The jury said it rewarded “their efforts to develop international cooperation and remove barriers hampering understanding between nations.”
It was the first time the prize, named after the title of Spain’s Crown Prince Felipe de Borbon and regarded as the most prestigious in the Hispanic world, went to people outside Spain or Latin America.
