Resignation of Taiwan Premier Is Accepted

TAIPEI, Taiwan — President Lee Teng-hui on Sunday accepted the resignation of Premier Yu Kuo-hwa, 75, a conservative whose reluctance to press political and economic reform isolated him from the public and his ruling party, the official Central News Agency reported.
Local newspapers are predicting that Lee Huan, 72, popular secretary general of the Nationalist Party, will be appointed to replace Yu. A decision will reportedly be made at a meeting Wednesday of the policy-making central committee.
