A 3-year-old Santa Ana boy died Tuesday of injuries suffered when he dashed into a street near his home and was struck by a car, police said.
The child, Juan Arreola, was trying to cross the street to get to his home in the 800 block of Louise Street about 7:45 p.m. Monday, police said.
The car was southbound on Louise and going about 25 m.p.h. when the boy ran in front of it, a police spokesman said. The 24-year-old driver swerved to avoid the boy, then stopped to aid him. The driver was not cited, police said.
The boy was taken to UCI Medical Center, where he underwent surgery for head and internal injuries. He died at 1:44 a.m. today, police said.
