W. Los Angeles : Fund-Raising Bike Ride
Nathan Reynolds, headmaster of the Westlake School for Girls, rode his bicycle across the country to raise $350,000 in pledges for the school’s financial aid program.
Reynolds, who celebrated his 56th birthday during the 3,150-mile trip from Los Angeles to Washington, has been the headmaster at the school at 700 N. Faring Road for 23 years. To prepare for the marathon trip, he followed a strict health and exercise regime that included 500 miles a week of early morning bike rides.
The money raised from the tour will be used by the school’s scholarship fund, which last year awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to needy students.
