ATLANTA — The American Cancer Society dedicated its new headquarters Thursday during a ceremony highlighted by the burial of a time capsule to be opened when a cure for cancer is found.
Dr. Harmon J. Eyre, immediate past president of the society, said the capsule will be opened “when and only when the diseases we know as cancer are either entirely cured or controlled.”
After 75 years in New York City, the cancer society decided last year to move its headquarters to Atlanta. The society’s new offices are located across the street from the federal Centers for Disease Control.
