LONDON — World No. 1 Ivan Lendl powered his way into the second round of the $385,000 Queen’s Club grass court tennis championships today, surviving a first-set scare from Tobias Svantesson.
Lendl dropped the first set 6-1 in just 19 minutes, then rebounded for a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Svantesson, who is ranked 196th in the world.
“I think he played reasonably well,” said Lendl, making his first appearance at Queen’s in four years. “But I think I helped him a lot, especially in the second game in the first set.”
