A Belgian air force colonel accused of giving top secret Belgian and North Atlantic Treaty Organization documents to the Soviet Union was convicted of treason and sentenced to 20 years at hard labor. Col. Guy Binet, 54, received $105,000 for the information he passed to Moscow, according to testimony at the trial in Brussels. Belgian Defense Minister Guy Coeme said Binet began spying for the Soviet Union in 1986. He said the motive was profit, rather than ideological reasons.
