TV Reviews : ‘Knight & Daye’ Is as Predictable as Night and Day

Who dreams up these things? And why? Those questions occur after watching such hapless series as “Knight & Daye,” the NBC comedy getting a four-episode test starting with tonight’s premiere at 9:30 on Channels 4, 36 and 39.
A good cast is squandered on this unfunny entry, whose ensuing episodes air at 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays. The premise finds two aging radio partners being tenuously reunited after four decades of bitter estrangement.
Hank Knight (Jack Warden) is a big-talking, down-and-out Mister Showbiz with orange fake hair. Everett Daye (Mason Adams) is cranky and cerebral, living an inactive retiree’s life with his wife (Hope Lange), daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren.
Tonight’s opener is inane and predictable, with Knight and Daye being persuaded to resume their partnership on a San Diego station in morning drive-time--despite their mutual antipathy. They battle. They bicker. Above all, they bore.
