Sean Burwell, a standout as a running back and defensive back at Cleveland High last fall, has been added to the South team for the Shrine all-star football game at the Rose Bowl on July 29.
Burwell (6-0, 185), who will attend Oregon in the fall on scholarship, was an All-Valley selection as a defensive back and was named the West Valley League’s defensive MVP last year. He also rushed for 1,145 yards and became one of the few area players to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season at two schools. He gained 1,211 yards as a sophomore at Chaminade.
Burwell joins five other Valley-area players on the South team. Also selected are: tight end Brian Allen of Hart who will attend UCLA, lineman Rick McCathron (Thousand Oaks, Oregon State), linebacker Carrick O’Quinn (Agoura, UCLA), quarterback Ron Redell (Crespi, Stanford) and running back Russell White (Crespi, Cal).
