GTE Corp.: The Stamford, Conn., telecommunications firm posted second-quarter profit of $329 million, an increase of 10%. Sales for the parent company of Thousand Oaks-based GTE California were $4.3 billion, up 2% from the 1988 period. The firm cited an increase in long-distance calling and the sale of 30% of US Sprint.
