About 1,000 Greek Cypriot women declared victory and abandoned a stretch of Cyprus’ ethnic dividing line after two days of protesting the 15-year-old Turkish occupation of the northern part of the island. The protest had threatened to wreck 11 months of U.N.-sponsored negotiations on reuniting the eastern Mediterranean nation. “We have achieved our purpose of emphasizing the Greek Cypriots’ right of return” to their homes in the north, an organizer said.
