An appreciation of the arts around the globe is set to begin today in Mexico City when 23 groups of artists and performers from the United States and a dozen other countries take part in Mexico’s inaugural arts festival. Mexico City Mayor Manuel Camacho Solis told a news conference that the festival will include performances by French mime Marcel Marceau and readings of the late Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges’ poems, as well as exhibitions of paintings and sculptures. The Israel Philharmonic, Argentine singer Mercedes Sosa and the Moscow School of Dramatic Arts will also perform at the festival, along with groups from other Latin American countries, Spain, and Poland. “The festival’s programs will reflect the best of culture in the world,” Camacho said Friday. The festival will run until Sept. 10.
