WASHINGTON — President Bush will visit Florida to lend his support to a Republican congressional candidate before going to Maine for a summer vacation, the White House announced Tuesday.
Bush is to appear next Wednesday at a rally in Miami for Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Cuban-American and former state senator running to fill the congressional term of Rep. Claude Pepper, the 88-year-old Democratic dean of the House, who died in May. The President’s son, Jeb Bush, is managing her campaign.
The Democrats will choose their candidate in a runoff vote Tuesday, and the special election is set for Aug. 29.
