Chris Evert, 34, says she will retire from serious competition after this year’s Open.
“My mind is made up. The 1989 U.S. Open will be my final tournament,” Evert writes in the Aug. 28 issue of Sports Illustrated. Evert will still represent the United States in the Federation Cup in Tokyo in October.
