PRESS WARS: The forces that killed the Los Angeles Herald Examiner (D1) also have been at work in Orange County. . . . In 1959, readers here had daily newspapers in Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Orange and Santa Ana, plus one Long Beach and five Los Angeles dailies. . . . Now only three seven-day-a-week newspapers remain: The Times, the Register and the Daily Pilot. . . . Still, says Michigan-based newspaper broker Owen Van Essen, “I think daily newspapers are very healthy in Orange County.”
