The United States vetoed a Security Council resolution that would have demanded that Israel return property confiscated from Palestinians during a tax protest. Britain, France, Canada and the other 11 members of the council voted for the resolution, which would also have sent a fact-finding mission to observe Israel’s crackdown on the Arab uprising.
