Signal Hill : New City Manager Brings Strengths in Redevelopment

Doug La Belle will take over as Signal Hill’s city manager next month. La Belle, the deputy city administrator for Huntington Beach, will replace Robert L. Williams, who is retiring after two years of managing the small oil town that is surrounded by Long Beach.
La Belle has worked in the public sector for about 25 years and has held management positions in five communities, including Cerritos and Garden Grove. He will be paid $85,000 annually, which is $8,500 more than the current city manager’s salary.
The Cerritos resident was selected from an original pool of about 70 applicants and eight finalists, according to city officials. His strengths are in redevelopment and economic development, two areas the City Council wants to emphasize for the 2.4-square-mile city, Williams said.
Mayor Gerard Goedhart said that the new city manager “brings an extensive municipal management background to Signal Hill along with specific strengths in areas Signal Hill needs right now.”
