PREP SOCCER ROUNDUP : Corona del Mar Defeats Santiago, 4-2, to Gain Irvine Tournament Semifinals

Corona del Mar High School advanced to the semifinals of the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament by defeating Santiago, 4-2, on penalty kicks Monday at Harvard Park in Irvine.
The match was tied, 0-0, after regulation. Chris Smith, Justin Pierce, Tanner Rupp and Alfred Sandoval scored in the shootout for the Sea Kings (3-0). Corona del Mar goalie Chris Connelly had 18 saves.
In other Irvine boys’ soccer tournament matches at Irvine High:
Newport Harbor 4, San Clemente 0--Alex Opoulus scored two of the Sailors’ four first-half goals. Dave Pattison and Joey Perez each added goals for Newport Harbor (3-0) in a quarterfinal match.
Saddleback 1, Irvine 0--Cisneros Eliodoro scored in the first half for the Roadrunners (4-0) in a quarterfinal match.
Foothill 1, El Toro 1 (Foothill advances on penalty kicks, 2-0)--Eric Fukuda and Brian Rice scored in the shootout to lead the Knights in a quarterfinal match. Fukuda also scored Foothill’s goal in regulation.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Esperanza 3, Valencia 1--Mark Donaldson, Mike Boss and Jason DeLucca each scored for host Esperanza (2-0).
Laguna Hills 5, Estancia 0--Brian Slayback and Juan Strutton each scored twice for the host Hawks (4-0).
Capistrano Valley 3, La Quinta 1--Max Alvarez, a senior exchange student from Spain, scored two goals for the visiting Cougars.
Santa Margarita 3, Servite 2--Scott Carter, Travis Lucero and Oscar Mestre scored for host Santa Margarita.
In the Irvine girls’ soccer tournament:
Dana Hills 7, Westminster 0--Amy Kroeger scored three goals and Stacy Juhl had two assists to lead the Dolphins (3-0) in a quarterfinal match.
