STOCKHOLM — Masters champion Stefan Edberg is among five players nominated today by Swedish captain John-Anders Sjogren for the team that will take on West Germany in the Davis Cup final at Stuttgart Dec. 15 to 17.
Sjogren, whose team is making its seventh straight appearance in the final, also picked Mats Wilander, Jan Gunnarsson, Anders Jarryd and Jonas Svensson. One of them will be left off as a reserve before the Dec. 12 draw.
Edberg, who’s ranked third in the world, beat Boris Becker of West Germany in Sunday’s Masters final in New York. Becker, the world’s second-ranked player, led West Germany to a 4-1 victory over Sweden in last year’s Davis Cup final on indoor clay at Goteborg, Sweden.
