Los Angeles police arrested at least 18 people Wednesday in raids on 15 garment district businesses suspected of selling clothing with counterfeit brand-name labels.
The raids began at noon and targeted 12 wholesalers and three manufacturers who were turned in to police by competitors concerned about the proliferation of fake brand-name jeans and T-shirts, said Lt. Fred Reno of the Los Angeles Police Department’s bunco-forgery unit.
About 70 officers participated in the operation, Reno said. Six truckloads of clothing worth nearly $1 million were confiscated.
