The ‘Price of a Pal’ Strikes a Chord

Veterinary medicine has developed amazingly sophisticated techniques, equipment and surgical procedures. As a responsible pet owner, I welcome these advances while recognizing that not everyone can afford to pay for them. The introduction of third-party financing and pet insurance is long overdue.
I would like to add a plea that no one give a pet for Christmas unless you are absolutely sure the recipient is prepared and able to care for its needs. Responsible medical care is not inexpensive, but compared to what we pay for human needs, veterinary costs are a tremendous bargain and reward us in incomparable ways. No love is given more completely than that of a healthy, well-loved pet.
