SHORT TAKES : Dylan to Open Tour at Toad’s

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Bob Dylan will open an international tour with a warm-up concert Friday at Toad’s Place, a New Haven nightclub that in August featured the Rolling Stones.
To get Dylan to appear at the club, which can hold only 700 people, Toad’s offered to let him keep all proceeds from ticket sales, said Mike Spoerndle, president of Toad’s. Tickets are to cost $18.50.
“We were not looking to make money. We were interested in having another legend,” Spoerndle said.
After Toad’s landed the Stones to close out the 1980s, Dylan’s appearance “is a great way to start the 1990s,” said Katherine Cormack, Toad’s director of booking and promotion.
Dylan’s latest album is titled “Oh Mercy.”
