Hollywood and Black Americans

I was quite surprised at the apparent naivete of Stein, who writes that “blacks are not properly represented in movies and television shows. . . .” Where has Stein been since the ‘60s? Does he not recall the television series “Room 222,” which portrayed a black man and a black woman as schoolteachers in starring roles? Or the series “What’s Happening?” Has he not heard of Bill Cosby? He must be unaware that Sidney Poitier is now directing.
He further suggests a variant of “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” a Frank Capra classic best left alone!
Before Stein wrote this column, I feel he should have been more aware of the facts and not living back in the 1950s!
