West Covina : RV Parking Ban Reviewed

City officials are deciding whether to push ahead with a planned ordinance to ban overnight parking for recreational vehicles, after a state attorney general’s opinion last week that said cities have no right to enact such laws.
Prompted by resident complaints about traffic problems and the unsightliness of RVs on city streets, the West Covina City Council is considering an overnight parking ban for oversized vehicles, including RVs. A vote is planned for Monday.
But California cities do not have the authority to prohibit the parking of recreational vehicles on residential streets, according to the opinion by Deputy Atty. Gen. Ronald Weiskopf.
West Covina Administrative Analyst Dan Holler said the city attorney is reviewing the proposed ordinance to see how it might be affected.
