UCLA and UCLA-related spending added about $4.4 billion and 70,000 jobs to Southern California’s economy in fiscal year 1987-88, according to a report released by accounting firm KPMG Peat Marwick.
That amount includes employee wages and benefits, purchase of goods and services, student expenses, payment of principal and interest, capital improvements, retiree benefits and programs funded by institutions closely linked to UCLA.
The study also found that students spent more than $205 million off campus during 1987-88, most of it within 10 miles of campus.
