Boxer Charged in Shooting of Promoter

LONDON — Former boxing champion Terry Marsh was charged with attempted murder Thursday in the shooting of his former manager, promoter Frank Warren.

Marsh, who had been questioned by police for more than 32 hours before the charge was filed, also was charged with possession of ammunition without a firearms certificate.

Warren, who managed Marsh, 31, to the International Boxing Federation junior welterweight crown in 1987 and has since become a successful fight promoter, was shot Nov. 30 outside a London theater where he was staging a boxing card.

Marsh, a former schoolboy chess champion and known for his mild nature, was undefeated in 30 fights, but retired in 1987 after being diagnosed as an epileptic.
