P.M. BRIEFING : Sony Refinances Columbia Buy

TOKYO — Sony Corp. authorized the issuing of $2.8 billion in unsecured yen bonds on the Japanese market today to be used to refinance Sony’s purchase of Columbia Pictures Entertainment Inc. and the Guber-Peters Entertainment Co.
The bonds will not be offered in the United States or Canada or to any U.S. or Canadian citizen, the company said.
Sony will issue $2.1 billion in unsecured yen convertible bonds and $700 million in unsecured yen bonds with warrants.
