WARSAW — Cardinal Jozef Glemp, the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland, was admitted to a hospital intensive care unit today for an undisclosed ailment, a hospital source said.
“His health condition is the kind of condition of patients who are in the intensive care unit,” the source said, while refusing to give details.
A church spokesman said Glemp was taken by ambulance from his palace to the hospital.
“It is a serious problem,” he said.
Glemp, 61, has been the head of the powerful Polish church since 1981, following the death of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski.
