NEW YORK — There’s another Sylvester Stallone statue in the news--a 12-foot nude one.
Last week officials in Philadelphia saw fit to remove Stallone’s “Rocky” statue from in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum but another monumental figure of the actor is going on exhibit in New York. The larger-than-life statue will be included in a show of 60 paintings and sculptures by figurative artists at the New York Academy of Art starting Thursday.
Sculptor Martine Vaugel said she was commissioned by Stallone and his former wife, Brigitte Nielsen, to do a double statue of them but she removed Nielsen after they were divorced and used the extra clay to make Sylvester larger than life. Vaugel calls the statue “Age of Steel.”
