NATION IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Prostate Drug Sales Face Curbs by FDA

The Food and Drug Administration said it will ban the sale of all non-prescription drugs used to treat enlargement of the prostate gland. The agency said its review of these products found little evidence any of them eliminates, arrests or treats the condition, called benign prostatic hypertrophy. Surgery is currently the only effective treatment, the FDA said. The condition causes enlargement of the male gland, which can obstruct the flow of urine, create back pressure in the kidneys and cause urinary tract infections, the FDA said.
