Gov. George Deukmejian on Tuesday appointed Long Beach banker and auto dealer James Gray to the California State University Board of Trustees. Gray, 52, replaces Dixon Harwin of Beverly Hills, whose term expired. The position requires confirmation by the state Senate.
Gray, a Republican, has been president and chief executive officer for Harbor Bancorp of Long Beach since 1974, and president of Jim Gray Volvo of Long Beach since 1963.
His term on the CSU board would expire March 1, 1998. Members are paid $100 per day plus expenses.
The 20-member Board of Trustees sets policy for the 20-campus university system, makes budget decisions, appoints the CSU president and university chancellors, and oversees collective bargaining with employees.
