Rick Jones has resigned as boys’ basketball coach at Brea-Olinda High School.
“I cannot teach world history effectively, be in the classroom and direct a total (basketball) program,” Jones said Tuesday. “It’s too much for one person.”
Jones, a four-year coach, said his letter of resignation will be submitted to the Brea-Olinda school board tonight.
Jones, who has taught world history at Brea-Olinda for 16 years, was a junior varsity coach and varsity assistant at Brea-Olinda for nine seasons. He replaced Gene Lloyd as basketball coach after the 1984-85 season.
Jones was 79-31 during his four seasons. The Wildcats won three Orange League championships and finished second once. They also reached the quarterfinals of the Southern Section playoffs twice.
