Weekly Tabloid to Cover Aviation: The first issue of a weekly publication named Runways and published by Knight-Ridder Inc., is being distributed in Southern California. Pre-publication publicity releases said the tabloid will cover all aspects of the aviation business in the 200-mile region from Santa Barbara to San Diego. Its publisher, Larry Birger, said Runways will report on commercial airlines, general aviation, aerospace, cargo shipping, airport operations, aviation equipment and maintenance, as well as related topics such as tourism. He noted that there are more than 25 airports within the region to be covered. Analysts said that if Runways is successful, Knight-Ridder would be likely to start editions in other major aviation centers. Runways will be based in El Segundo.
