Japan Reportedly Set to Open Satellite Market: An unconfirmed report by Kyodo News Service said Japan will open its market for all non-experimental satellites to foreign competition in a concession to U.S. demands. The U.S. government has designated satellites as one of three key areas, along with forest products and supercomputers, for possible U.S. sanctions. Kyodo, quoting government sources, said Japan will tell Washington as early as this week that it will abandon plans to offer exclusive contracts on two CS-4 communications satellites to a consortium of Japanese companies.
